Welcome to Day 2 of Our Scrapbook Series – The Story Behind Bungalow House Studio!

Today, I’m answering the question: Why "Bungalow House Studio"?

It's time for your answer! But First, let me remind you what I've put together for you in this 6-part series:

Day 2 Slide for Scrapbook Series
Welcome to Bungalow House Studio!

BUNGALOW House Studio

Our 1900's home is built in the architectural style called a Bungalow. Being the design nerd I am, it seemed appropriate to include part of my passion into the name of my business, Bungalow House Studio. This home has served our family to have an influence on how we live each day. From it's simple layout, old quirks, and original features, we live a different way than someone in a more contemporary home may live.

For example: The minimal storage space invites us to live simpler. The original wood floors and craftsman details throughout the home inspire our family to preserve the character and quality that exemplified the craftsman movement. These are just a few examples of how this home has shaped the way we interact in our day to day. Have you ever thought of how your very home shapes the way you live? It's pretty fascinating.

The BUNGALOW in Bungalow House Studio represents a certain type of character and quality that has withstood the test of time, just like the materials and methods used during the craftsman movement. That same character exemplified in our home is exactly what I bring to the table at Bungalow House Studio.

Bungalow HOUSE Studio

If you've spent some time with me here at Bungalow House Studio, it is no secret that I used to design homes for a living (both inside and out). Now, I'm implementing my design background on more of a micro level, more on that later.

So why the HOUSE in Bungalow House Studio? Here is the explanation:

I attempt to be present and intentional with the people inside my home. I'm not always successful, but the sweet hugs I get from my boys tells me I'm definitely on the right track.

The time I've spent designing other's homes was all focused around a central passion: Creating a space for the family to flourish in. Whether I was making a kitchen more efficient and beautiful, or just designing a facelift for a front porch. These were the thoughts I had while crafting their spaces, "Emma, work hard. Enhance the beauty of this home for this family. Craft a space so beautifully done that this family will want to spend more time with one another in this space." Can a design do that? I believe it CAN. However, I only have the skills to make it a prettier house, but it is the job of the family to make it a HOME

House is meant as an interactive term. I propose that it is actually not a complete term until you are part of the equation. An empty house is just a house. However "house" + "you" = "home". You are the one who has the power to bring this piece to completion, not me.

Bungalow House STUDIO

This one may seem a little more obvious to most. The word Studio in Bungalow House Studio represents the creativity behind our brand. The Studio is where all my new watercolor art is created. Where designs come to life, ideas are brought to life

On a practical level, Bungalow House Studio is truly our whole house. Our home has turned into my studio. You will find me reading and doing research at our single seat kitchen island as I await the water to boil for our Monday Spaghetti night. Or, find me at the kitchen table painting the newest Bungalow House Studio watercolor collection as my son plays independently in the adjacent living room. All the spaces in our home are utilized as a piece of this studio. Between keeping up with our sweet toddler and getting work done, my studio moves to all areas of the home. I wouldn't have it any other way!

So there you have it, a little behind the scenes of the naming of my business! The three words - Bungalow, House, & Studio encompass so much of the philosophy behind why I started this business and what continues to motivate our family!

The Bungalow in Bungalow House Studio represents the character and quality that withstand the test of time.

The House in Bungalow House Studio represents the interactive nature of the business.

The Studio in Bungalow House Studio represents the creative side of the business.
