Family Campfire Conversations - Part 2

Family Campfire Conversations - Part 2

You started with Part One of our family campfire conversations series and you are ready to try some more. Family time is a valuable commodity and these questions will help you make the most of your time together and build intentional conversation during your transition from summer to the start of the school year.

Don’t let this special time around the campfire go to waste. It's the darkness of the beautiful sky with only the light of the campfire shining on your faces that allows for conversations to go deeper and more special, that is, if you will let them. Give these questions a try and see where conversation leads. Try not to only ask yes or no questions. Open-ended questions tend to help your kids think a little more about how they really are doing.

As a reminder, here are the two rules for around the campfire:

  1. Include a fun snack (s'mores anyone?)
  2. Go technology free. Phones are not necessary for the campfire, give your family the full attention they deserve.

Conversation Starters for your Family Campfire:

  1. What are your favorite things about being part of our family?

  2. What silly things come to mind when you think of our family spending time together?

  3. Name a time when you have felt scared and talk about how you were able to overcome that situation. Did someone help you?

  4. Name 2 things that you are looking forward to in the future.

  5. Where is a place that you love to visit or would love to visit?

  6. Is there an activity that you would like to try together as a family?

  7. Which friend of yours do you feel like encourages you the most? How do they encourage you?

  8. What is a kind action that you can do this week for someone at school?

  9. When do you feel most safe and loved?

Where did the questions lead you? I hope that you learned something new about your kids that you wouldn't have otherwise. Will you leave a comment about your Family Campfire Conversation below? Maybe even add a question or two that you came up with during the time!!
