Friendship is a special thing. Especially today when we can choose to spend our time in so many other ways, intentional time with friends seems to be even more of a rare occurrence. When everyone has their own family it becomes even more rare, so my hope is that these questions will help you spend your time with your friends even more intentionally so that you know how you can continue to support one another until you get to spend time together like this again.
1. How have you been feeling lately?
Sometimes the simple question of "how are you doing" may sound so basic, but not everyone gets asked that question in a genuine way. Starting with a simple question about their well-being can open up the conversation and show that you care about their emotional state.
2. What has been bringing you joy recently?
Encouraging your friends to share their simple joys helps to understand their interests and give you a better idea of ways to keep in touch when you aren't together. This is also a great way to note how you can seek out creating small gifts for them during special occasions.
3. Have you discovered any new hobbies or interests lately?
Learning about your friends' new hobbies can give you insight into their evolving passions and provide opportunities for shared interests. Sharing about their fun day to day activities is a great way to show what makes them tick and helps you to understand how to create a fun experience for them if they are having a rough day.
4. How do you like to relax and unwind after a long day?
Understanding how your friends decompress can help you support them during stressful times and show that you value their well-being. If you know they've had a rough day, seek out ways to help them relax. Perhaps provide them with a gift of their simple joy or something related to their hobby (see questions 2 and 3). Or write them a word of encouragement using your favorite cards!
5. What goals or aspirations are you currently working towards?
Encouraging your friends to share their dreams and ambitions can help you understand their values and provide support as they strive towards their goals. Do a routine check-in with one another to see how you are both meeting your goals.
6. Is there a book, movie, or TV show that has made an impact on you recently?
Discussing pieces that have resonated with your friends can spark engaging conversations and deepen your understanding of their perspectives. Communication is key in any friendship, and taking the time to connect on a deeper level can strengthen your bond, no how rare your time together can be.
How did the conversation go? Did any other questions come up? Please add any other questions you think would be helpful to share with others below!
