What a Black-Eyed Susan taught me about Praise
“Let them praise the name of the Lord! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever; he have a decree, and it shall not pass away.” Ps 148:5-6
A Black-eyed Susan is known for “abundantly reseeding themselves” to the point where many have even called them “invasive”. In that case, I don’t think I would mind being accused of being like a Black-eyed Susan. Let me explain.

Let Me Explain...
I’m not saying that I want to have so many kids that the Maxwell’s become an invasive species.
I’m not saying that I wish to turn my introvert-ness into a loud and extrovert personality. God made me as an introvert and I’m happy with my quiet corner where not many people know my name.
What I am saying is, as a follower of Jesus, I want my passion for him to be so great that my praise for him is contagious. That my pouring out of love for Jesus spreads like a field of wild Black-eyed Susan’s.
Just like a single black-eyed Susan can easily take over a field with thousands more, I want my love and fervor for Jesus to be so widespread that from my single puny “flower aka life” it reseeds and from those seeds they produce more and more and eventually there is no stopping it. Do you see it? A whole flower field - a whole generation of women just absolutely all in for Jesus.

And here’s the beautiful thing - when you look at a field of black-eyed Susan’s, you can’t tell which flower started it all. All you can think of is the one who created them and the beauty of creation reflects our creator. I reminds me of Psalm 148, where all of creation is praising the name of the Lord!
Psalm 148
1 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise him in the heights above.
2 Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
3 Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
4 Praise him, you highest heavens
and you waters above the skies.
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for at his command they were created,
6 and he established them for ever and ever—
he issued a decree that will never pass away.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
stormy winds that do his bidding,
9 you mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,
small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women,
old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn, [ b ]
the praise of all his faithful servants,
of Israel, the people close to his heart.
Praise the Lord.
Let's Pray
Father, great are you. To you be all the praise. You hold all the power, in a single breath you create or destroy. Create in us a desire to reflect you and share others about you. Destroy any evil or selfish desires in our hearts. Create in me a clean heart. Use my small efforts to only your glory. All praise to you Father, our Creator. Amen.
